Alex Waldman was born in 1977 in San Diego, U.S.A. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1999 where he studied Cinema as well as Philosophy. In 2003 he completed his studies in Cinematography at London International Film School. He has been living in Istanbul for the past three years, where he has also taken part in many exhibitions and screenings. Waldman has contributed to Street art in Turkey and his work has been published in a Graffiti book in 2009. He works with photography, cinema, video art, sculpture, painting, graffiti, and the occasional concept.
Proposal for Twice A Stranger:
The piece includes a sculpture, made of paper, that describes (is) a topographic representation of the city of istanbul- that being the seven hills, Bosphorous (water), Bosphorous coast, and a good measure of the Anatolian coast. Each topographic slice of the map/sculpture will be a separate floating piece. The entire piece will be a seismic analog of both the seismic activity of the land, and that of the footsteps of the visitors seeing the piece.
